FAKES AND FORGERIES IN SILVER

FAKES AND FORGERIES IN SILVER

A Study Day presented by Ian Pickford

Ian Pickford was born and educated in London and is a Freeman of both the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths and the City of London. He is a very familiar face on Antiques Roadshow and is the Editor of Jackson’s Silver and Gold Marks.

There have in all areas of life always been those who have tried to cheat the system and silver is no exception. This illustrated talk will examine what the lawbreakers have been up to with forged marks, duty dodging and altered pieces. It will also look at how illegalities are detected and dealt with.

If members would like to bring a piece of silver or plate if time prevails Ian will then identify and discuss the pieces.
